The Suppressed

Living in cloisters
under a shroud
amidst a hushed silence
claustrophobia
clinched in somber discipline,

Individual choices
endure denial,
conformity, the single norm
from which, none can stray,
lest to sin, become an ally,

Personal liberty, lies squashed
like a colony of ants
trampled underfoot,
partial paralysis
of abilities, ebbing,
draining.

Desires bubble
stirring rebellion
cascading currents
threaten to destabilize
the equilibrium
of his staggering sanity.
